“There is no secret to the medicine - it is simply to ask for the healing of our bodies and spirits, and the purification of our minds, so that we can become a better person.” - Chief Tuim Nova Era of the Huni Kuin tribe

SACRED TOBACCO

Tobacco is older than time—that’s what many of the American tribes say. Something like, tobacco is a gift from the creator so we can remember him. Or, tobacco teaches us how to be human. Whichever way one wants to phrase it, tobacco has the capacity to be allied with as an evolutionary teacher of medicine, working on body, mind & spirit. What separates the potential of this ancient plant to be medicine, from its common western use as a toxin, comes down to worldview, respect & knowledge.

Evolving our worldview looks something like moving towards a wholistic acknowledgement of all things as sacred & interconnected. Holding this perspective requires deep respect for self. When we align ourselves with this great and humble vision of the universe as whole and complete, we make ourselves fit to cultivate organic, life-giving knowledge. And as the saying goes, knowledge is power.

TOBACCO CEREMONY

A tobacco ceremony can be many things. In some traditions, the pipe is used for prayer or for creating peaceful speech within community. In other traditions, tobacco is ingested orally as a tea, to clean the body of physical & emotional imbalance. Likewise, the same tea can be snorted into the sinuses to purify the eyes & ears or inserted into the colon via enema to detoxify the intestines. Hape, an intranasal snuff of tobacco powder, is used for grounding the emotions, aligning body and mind.

We use a homemade paste of pure wild tobacco for ceremony. The paste is taken internally and digested almost like a food. Physically, it is a cleaning agent of the entire digestive tract, a balancer of the nervous system, a strengthener of bones and ligaments and harmonizer of the immune system. Spiritually, tobacco paste connects us to a profound state of shamanic meditation, evoking personal vision, ancestral memory, psychic humility and bridging our consciousness to the realm of spirit—while remaining lucid, sharp & sober.
